Time for Training?

As our company has grown, fire safety training has evolved to become an integral Allsaved service. Training is a specialism that we particularly enjoy, since it connects us directly with our customers and enables us to share important advice about fire safety.

Most businesses today recognise that fire safety training for staff isn't just an 'optional extra'. Employers have a legal duty of care towards their workers, and that includes keeping them safe in an emergency situation.

If a company is investigated by authorities following a fire, employers must be able to prove that their staff have been properly trained in fire safety. Yet the surprising fact is that many companies continue to fall foul of their obligations, putting lives and property at risk.

Fire Safety Law in Action

Every year there are numerous prosecutions for breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, with significant fines and penalties imposed.

In April 2018, for example, an engineering company was prosecuted by the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Authority following a fire at its premises. In court, the company directors pleaded guilty to several breaches of fire safety regulations, and were fined a total of £60,645. The court heard that an employee had had to negotiate their way past the room that was on fire due to the unavailability of a fire escape.

As well as a lack of fire safety training for staff, the charges related to a lack of fire detection and alarm equipment, not having a Fire Risk Assessment in place, inadequately maintained fire doors and unavailability of several fire exits.

Why Training Matters

Here at Allsaved, we're able to provide the full range of fire safety services, from an initial fire risk assessment through to supply, installation and maintenance of fire alarms, fire extinguishers or fire suppression equipment.

Once your equipment is in place, it's imperative that staff are trained in what to do if a fire does break out. Appointing a fire marshal (also known as a fire warden) is an important first step, and we run specific training courses for marshals. But training for all employees is also advisable.

As well as classroom-based learning, you can get hands-on with fire extinguishers, and if there's a suitable outdoor space, we'll even give you the opportunity to fight a real (controlled) fire.
