How Safe is FirePro

The FirePro condensed aerosol fire suppression system is formed from naturally occurring elements. The key safety feature is that it does not deplete oxygen within the protected area when released. There is a small pressure increase when the system is discharged – but not enough to create a need for pressure relief venting. When FirePro is discharged, it is very hot, but the design of the system will ensure there is a safe distance between the FirePro generator and anything that may be affected by heat.

So Hiw Does FirePro Work?

1. A Chemical action During a fire, there are certain reactions between atoms and parts of unstable molecules (known as radicals), that take place in rapid succession These unstable ‘radicals’ try to become stable and during this process they undergo a number of reactions. A hydroxide (OH) is an unstable radical and this also allows for the chain reaction of fire. Potassium from the discharge of the potassium compounds in FirePro react during fire with the ‘free radicals’ of unstable hydroxides and forms potassium hydroxide (KOH) which is a very stable compound. In this point, the chain reaction of the free radicals stops. At this point the flame goes out. KOH reacts further in the presence of CO2 and forms K2CO3. There are additional reactions that take place during the extinguishing phase ensure the end product is not harmful to humans, environment nor matter. 2. Physical action Energy is needed for these complex chemical reactions to take place. The required amount of energy is supplied by the copiousness of energy present in the flame.

Can FirePro be used instead of an Inert Gas system or Chemical Agent system?

Yes. In fact FirePro is a better alternative as it is environmentally friendly, has no high pressure cylinders or pipe and is certified to be used on class A, B, C or F type fires.

The control and indicating equipment used for a total flooding system would be very similar to that used for either of the two gas suppression systems.

Due to its modular design it can also be used within cabinets instead of flooding the entire room, saving time and money for a system installation.

Is It Expensive?

No.

FirePro systems are extremely cost effective. While actual costs will vary based on the size of the enclosure, leakage, and class of hazard, in general, an installed system will be significantly less expensive than alternatives. This is due to the small amount of agent required and the fact that installation costs are dramatically reduced because of the elimination of distribution manifolds, piping, and nozzles. In some cases FirePro thermal units could be considered for fuel storage areas, electrical cabinets, inside generator casings, etc and this where appropriate could further reduce costs due to the elimination of detection and control panel requirements.

How Is It Designed?

The amount of FirePro required is proportional to the volume of the protected area. A simple volumetric calculation determines how much agent (and therefore the number of FirePro generators) that are required. Any changes in the room layout are easily accommodated due to it’s simple design.
